Outrigger pads are large, flat support structures used primarily in construction, crane operations, and other heavy-duty equipment applications. They are placed beneath the outriggers (extended arms) of cranes, lifts, or other machinery to distribute the weight and pressure more evenly across the ground, preventing the equipment from sinking or tipping over. In addition to providing stability, outrigger pads also help protect the underlying surface from damage, such as cracking or denting.
Outrigger pads are crucial for maintaining safety during heavy lifting operations, as they enhance the stability and balance of the equipment, ensuring that the load is lifted and maneuvered securely. Proper use and selection of outrigger pads are essential for preventing accidents and equipment damage.
These pads are made from multi-layer birch plywood. They come in various sizes and thicknesses, depending on the load-bearing requirements and the type of surface on which they are placed.
Industry Safety Standards suggest that the outrigger pad should be at least 3 times the size of the outrigger foot for proper support.
To calculate the best size pad for your crane, obtain the square inches of the outrigger foot by multiplying the length x width x 3 (in inches).
Example:
Length 24.25 x Width 24.25 = Square Inches 588 x 3 = 1764 Pad Size (Sq. Inch)
